Movies for Old White Racist Bastards
Hubs and I decided to have a movie and take-away night on Saturday. Well, actually I'd have to say that I decided and hubs agreed, provided it didn't involve any chick flicks. Usually we end up with at least one horror film, as that genre suits us both, and true to form we got some terrible thing called Quadrant, which I wouldn't recommend. The other film, Gran Torino, we could also agree on 1) because it somewhat revolves around an automobile [hubs] and 2) it got good reviews [me]. This was my first Clint Eastwood film, and will definitely be my last, unless someone straps me down to a chair and tapes open my eyelids, Clockwork Orange style. Gran Torino is about an old white racist bastard living in Detroit, who transforms into....oh wait, he's still an old white racist bastard at the end of the film. Unless you enjoy hearing racial slurs every 5 minutes, don't bother.

I love that movie, and no, he's not a white racist bastard at the end of it. Never thought much of Eastwood in his earlier days, but love the movies he makes as an old guy. Did you ever see Million Dollar Baby, or Mystic River? Loved those also.
HAHA great review! That's kinda how I felt. I'm not a huge Eastwood fan- I felt like he was just doing his dirty harry style talking the whole time. I thought the actors were pretty crap as well. I actually thought some of the racist comments were quite funny... it just seemed SO overboard!
Someone told me he got better at the end. No? Hmm. This is one Himself wants to see.
I'm a bit over Clint I must say. I loved the 'Fist Full of Dollars' series and a few of his early westerns but lately...meh.
I thought it had the promise to be better than it was, but at the end I felt cheated.
Mystic River was much better if you feel liking giving Eastwood the director another shot.
No way, fantastic movie. You're missing the point. Cynical man who outlives his beautiful wife, his grown boys can't stand him, and his neighborhood is deteriorating in front of him. He sees wasted youth, poor work ethic and violence. He partially blames his new neighbors who happen to be minorities. Eventually, however, he gets to know them, attempts to learn their culture and wants to help the two teens (boy and a girl). Racial slurs were hilarious! Best flick I've seen this year.
Reinvent Dad - you had me until you said the racial slurs were hilarious:/
"Hilarious" wasn't the best word choice, but it matched the personality of the character.
