Happy un-Christmas

I bet you will find this same whinge on the blog of any North American who is spending their first Xmas Down Under. It's warm and sticky here in Auckland, with lots of rain and fog, but temps in the high 60s, and the occasional hot and sunny day, few and far in between. People here have mostly fake xmas trees, many of them being...white and pink!! That is when you actually see a tree, or outside lights on a house. And there certainly aren't any in the downtown...they don't even have a tree up! I am so making up for all this once Steve and I are back in our house in Adelaide.

Yes, I know EXACTLY how you feel. Christmas here pretty much sucks!

I am feeling the same way. At work there is minimal decorations, the tree is fake and we haven't made any christmas themed crafts with the children. When I was at home I was covered in glitter from early November. I am not the most christmasy of people but all this un christmas has made me not bother at all. Dunc has bought some lights, which we need to put up. Christmas in the summer is wrong!!!!

It's worse now that I've seen pics of the gorgeous snow back home. The only saving grace this xmas has is that it is my first xmas with my new husband.

Yeah, it's kind of strange to hear people say "put on your swimmers and let's go out to the beach" instead of "put on your jacket and let's go out for a hot chocolate".

But after spending the past 5 Christmases in Oz, I'm actually starting to get used to it all... the hot weather, the cold seafood lunches, swimming. Sure, I often pine for the cold and bundling up, but Christmas down under no longer "sucks", if you know what I mean.

In the end, Christmas is whatever you make of it. And hopefully with time, you'll find ways to make it your own. :)

Well, it wasn't ultimately as bad as I thought, and New Year was actually enjoyable with warm weather and fireworks...but I still prefer a white xmas;)
