An Upright Vacuum Cleaner Puh-lease?!
Why is it that in Australia it is almost impossible to find upright vacuum cleaners?! All the advertisements are for canister models, which is what we have at home. Come on Aussies---these are 1) outdated (we had one in the '70s) 2) bulky and difficult to carry around the house as well as hell on your back and 3) don't work as well!! I think I'm going to be hard pressed to be able to find an upright under $200, and I certainly won't have much choice, but it is on my (lengthy) list of much needed household items, as vacuuming is a pain in the arse task these days. Oh how I wish for the day when I'll be able to shop on-line at such stores as Target and Woolworth's in Aussie:/

Perhaps this is what you're looking for. It's under $200.
Hello! I am an American ex-pat who's been living in Adelaide for over 3 yrs now. I understand your frustrations with appliances and how expensive they are here compared to home. Anyway, if you go to Godfrey's (there are so many), they often have floor models for a discounted price. We got an $800 vacuum for $400. The one on Main North Rd., has a big stock. They have a 1 yr guarantee so if you have issues then you take it back w/the original receipt and they'll service it for free. :)
Thanks Michelle. I did go to Godfrey's last week and felt like a total housewife trying out vacuums. Not sure I want a bagless so will keep looking.
Hey suzer,
I went in totally convinced that I wanted a bagless but apparently, if you want the best suction, bag is the best. So, I walked out with a bagged vacuum but I love it. What's cool about the Electrolux model is that you can close the bag before you pull it out of the machine so the nasty dust doesn't fly all over the place.
Which Electrolux did you get?
