Get Paid to go on Vacation
Ok, so I found out today (my husband told me...the new job probably figured I already knew) that in addition to getting 4 weeks paid holiday, I also get 17.5% on top of my salary when I take those 4 weeks. So essentially, not only am I encouraged to take 4 weeks off per year, I also get paid extra to do so!

That's amazing! Are those four weeks right off the bat, or do you have to work a certain amount of time before you get them?

steve says the rule is they don't give them to you until you have been with the company a year but that most companies will give them to you upfront. will see...it is a large global corp so hopefully they are decent in that respect.

Yep and don't forget long service leave - 3 months paid vacation after 10 yrs with the same company:)
yeah, it's leave loading! is 4 weeks a lot? those 4 weeks are the only thing that make me get out of bed in the morning
Similar to the UK as you will recall Susan? (although we don't get the extra 17.5% Grrrr) :-)
we get 4 weeks vacation time right from the get go on joining a company - on a pro-rata basis for the part year you join - and in the case of my company after 3 years this grows to 5 weeks and after 5 years with the company you get 6 weeks holidays - on top of the statutary national breaks of course
I have been here for nearly 10 years so I get my full 6 weeks every year (and very nice it is too!)

Yes 4 weeks is a lot when at US jobs, you typically only start with 2, maybe 3 weeks, and then it takes about 5 years at a company to get another week. And if you want to take an entire week off at once, you get a lot of hassle for it. 4 weeks to start is heaven and 5 or 6 sounds incredible to me!
Then there's the teaching profession in the US that starts one off with 10 weeks summer vacation in addition to 2 weeks at christmastime, one week spring break (there's your 3 months, and it's every year!!) along with various holidays making for 3 day weekends here and there.
Once you've been on that yearly schedule, it's difficult to adjust to any other! Pay is poor to start with, but vacation time is great!!
I know there'll be a tart comeback to that. :-))
Well I hate to burst your bubble, but teachers here get that much and more;)
